Overview

Under the general supervision of the Dental Director, provides care in the following disciplines of a general dental practice: diagnosis, preventive dentistry, pedodontics, removable and fixed prosthodontics, endodontics, fixed prosthodontics and oral surgery. Responsible for the provision and coordination of all dental services. Assists in the provision of in-house dental training for dental and other primary care delivery staff. Assists the manager in the evaluation and supervision of dental clinical and auxiliary staff. Works closely with the Medical Director, Dental Director, Chief Operations Officer and other, appropriate staff and administration to identify, develop, and implement the comprehensive clinical services and preventive services, including the coordination of credentialing and privileging of dental clinical staff.

Responsibilities
  • Perform clinical activities include diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental health problems
  • Provide diagnostic, preventive, and corrective oral health services to patients; preventive services include topical fluorides and advocating fluoridation of community water; corrective services include pedodontia, endodontia, exodontia, prosthodontia and other routine dental services
  • Participate in delivery of an integrated oral health program with other agency health services
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid license to practice dentistry in California
  • Minimum two years experience working in a high volume dental practice
  • Experience supervising dental auxiliary staff
  • CPR Certified
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Must be able to work with various populations whose cultural backgrounds vary
  • Must have knowledge of the full range of professional dental duties in connection with treatment of dental diseases and dental health problems of usual difficulty
  • Knowledge of professional and ethical standards of health care delivery
  • Skilled in the management of team dentistry using multiple operatories and multiple auxiliaries
  • Ability to independently perform professional dental work in cases where the dental heath problems are of usual difficulty
  • Knowledge of the operational aspects of Medi-Cal, CHDP, private insurance and government programs which pay for dental services
