Position is responsible for assisting in advancing tobacco control policy efforts through advocacy and education in San Diego North County cities. Coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of tobacco control program strategies working with a variety of audiences including community members, parents, students, community groups, partner agencies, public officials and other VCC staff. Position grant-funded through CA Tobacco Control Program.
- Provide group and individual information, education, training, and training to target populations, and identify key individuals and graoups in the community to recruit for program goals
- Effectively communicate program messages through in-person meetings, presentations, emails, interviews and other public forms of communication
- Coordinate and seek regular consultation with local and statewide partners and funders to increase coordination and training in the region and implement efforts to ensure diverse, engaged community members
- Research, develop and design a wide range of materials, such as educational curriculum, brochures, flyers, trainings, articles, news releases and social media posts
- High school diploma
- Minimum five years experience in public policy, public health, or community or health education, community organizing or related, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in tobacco health education or other substance prevention education
- Public health policy experience a plus
- Valid California drivers license, vehicle insurance and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree with minimum one year experience in one of the interests indicated above
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Ability to present information accurately and effectively both verbally and in writing to individuals and groups
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Experience/familiarity with computers, Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel), business e-mail communication systems and internet search capabilities
